Watching Scene One...

...is both joyful and painful. It's wonderful to see new footage of characters that have grown dear, like old friends who have been away but have returned to visit for awhile. But as I watched, I couldn't help but remember that, somewhere in Japan, there are grieving families whose pain is unimaginable and being softhearted, I began to cry.

I watched these characters sharing their dreams knowing that many dreams IRL have been lost to senseless violence. And I see in these characters the talent of their creator, Futoshi Nishiya, who will never see his dream played to an audience, as I'm sure he anticipated with excitement, as does everyone who is a part of the Kyoani and Animation Do families.

I, along with millions of others, hope that Kyoto Animation triumphs through this crisis and moves forward to honor the legacy of Nishiya-sama, the other victims, their families and Kyoani, itself. It is a tragedy that thirty-three precious souls are no longer here to enjoy the fruit of their labor, but it will be even worse if the madman who took their lives also manages to keep their art and the staff that supported it from being shared, enjoyed and honored as it is meant to be.

There are now, online, several ways to support Kyoani's rebuilding efforts. If you are able, please find one of these sites in order to contribute monetarily or find another way to do so. Posting Scene One and its translation is one way this wiki is spreading the word about the latest film, "Free!-Road to the World- the Dream." The film in Japan is sold out and Kyoani may be adding more showings in response. The film will likely be shown in other parts of the world as cinema/gekijo-ban in future months before being released to anime websites. If you have the opportunity, consider seeing the film in a local theater as part of the proceeds will return to Kyoto Animation.
