The Iwatobi Junior High School Swim Club (岩鳶中学水泳部 Iwatobi Chūgaku Suiei-bu) is featured in two forms of media under the Free! series umbrella. It first appeared in novel form as High☆Speed！ (ハイ☆スピード！, Hai☆Supīdo！) written by Kouji Ohji. The novel served as the inspiration for the first season of the anime Free!, which has expanded into three seasons, multiple Original Video Animations, several feature films and a large catalogue of music. The novel itself was animated as a stand-alone movie bearing the same title in 2015.
The story of the swim club focuses on the team comprised of Haruka Nanase, Makoto Tachibana, Asahi Shiina and Ikuya Kirishima who are grademates at Iwatobi Junior High School. All are reluctantly drafted into the swim club by Natsuya Kirishima, the captain of the team and older brother of Ikuya. Each swimmer faces difficulties as they develop their technique and grow as individuals, but with the help of co-captain and club manager, Nao Serizawa, they come to improve their individual strokes and better understand themselves.
