Kouji Ohji provides an Afterword following both High☆Speed 1 and High☆Speed 2. In the HS1 afterword, he expresses gratitude for everyone who helped to make his light novel succeed and evolve over the years, the gist of which reflects his sentiments regarding boys beginning to grow up in sixth grade and going forward to become swimming phenoms. His characters shine brightly, rising above the limitations of the period and circumstances to become universal figures in a universal story that is guided by a singular sentence: "The water is alive." In summary, Kouji Ohji refuses to tell the audience how they should feel, but hopes the story and its successors evoke emotions of all sorts.
